Royal Route – monuments

Church of the Discovery of St.. Cross (missionary) built in years 1679-1696 designed by Józef Szymon Bellotti. The facade of the years 1725-1737 it is designed by Józef Fontana. In year 1818 stairs with a balustrade were added (project by Ch. P. Aignera) and decorated with a statue of Christ carrying a cross – the work of Pius Wieloński with 1898 year (copy the sculpture by A.. Pruszyński). The pedestal and the Neo-Renaissance entrance to the lower church were designed by St. 1898 year arch. Stefan Szyller. There is also an epitaph with the heart of Fryderyk Chopin in the church (project by Leonard Marconi and A.. Pruszyński with 1880 year).

Staszic Palace was created in the years 1820-1823 designed by Antoni Corazzi as the seat of the Society of Friends of Sciences. Palace rebuilt in the 1892-1893 by the Russian architect M.. Pokrovsky in the Byzantine style- in Russian, it was partially reclassified in the years 1924-1926 (according to the design by Marian Lalewicz). Burned out in years 1939-1994, as a result of the post-war reconstruction of the design by Piotr Biegański, it has a facade composed according to Corazzi, new side facades. Currently, the Staszic Palace is the seat of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Monument of Nicolaus Copernicus, a bronze sculpture by the outstanding Danish sculptor Bertel Thorwaldsen, placed in 1830 year.

Nowy Świat Street jest uważana za jeden najruchliwszych deptaków miejskich w Europie. The rich burgher houses and city palaces from the 18th and 19th centuries were destroyed in the years 1944-1945. In years 1946-1958 new houses have replaced them, whose facades, nowadays mostly pseudo-classical, they only refer to old buildings (np. tenement house at no 35 refers to the facade of z 1820 year designed by Antoni Corazzi), a few are reconstructions (under no 51: Jabłonowski palace from around the mid-18th century).
At the back of Nowy Świat, in years 1949-1956 zrealizowano Nowy Świat West estate (designed by Zygmunt Stępiński), whose layout and architecture are inspired by Polish small-town architecture.

Former Party House built in years 1948-1951 according to the design by W.. Kłyszewski, J. Mokrzyński and E. Wierzbicki and the constructor St.. Hemp, in the style of moderate modernism. Made in the period of socialist realism, It was critically assessed by the then ideologues of socialist architecture. From 1990 year it houses the Stock Exchange.
